Tri-City Health Center Celebrates Senator Corbett and Model Patients Powering Healthier Communities During National Health Center Week

For more than 45 years, community health centers have delivered comprehensive, high-quality preventive and primary health care to patients regardless of their ability to pay. To celebrate the critical role of community health centers, Tri-City Health Center hosted a Community Awards and Open House event on August 9, 2012 in celebration of the National Health Center Week (NHCW.)

During the event TCHC honored the outstanding dedication of Senator Ellen M. Corbett to the well-being of the Tri-City community. While honoring Senator Ellen M. Corbett with the award, Juliana Schirmer, Interim Chief Executive Officer at Tri-City said “We would like to recognize Senator Ellen Corbett’s committed, responsive, and visionary legislative leadership critical to powering healthier communities.”

Senator Corbett graciously accepted the award and shared her appreciation of TCHC’s services with the audience.  “We all know how difficult it is for any family, particularly a family struggling because of lost jobs or living a difficult situation with a sick child and in need of help. So thank you so much Tri-City Health Center for all that you do for our community. It’s extremely impressive to think about the times and the number of people you have served and the compassion that you have demonstrated. It’s indeed a true honor to represent the 10th Senate District because of all of you, our community, and community health leaders like Tri-City Health Center” said Senator Ellen Corbett.

As part of the event festivities, TCHC also honored seven outstanding patients who were positive role models for the community, diligently following their healthcare plans to improve their overall health.  These outstanding patients shared touching personal stories with the audience describing the impact of TCHC services and their individual effort to improve their health and quality of life. The testimonials from these patients demonstrated the diverse population that TCHC serves and the different TCHC programs and services that help the Tri-City community.

“When I first came to Tri-City Health Center, I was staring at the doors of death. The TCHC provider and staff turned me around and saved my life. The TCHC provider is not just a doctor; he’s a dad, friend, and a very caring person. I feel comfortable when I come to Tri-City Health Center. I’m surrounded with a lot of love and all the staff members are a part of my life and recovery. They really comfort me and other clients that come through their doors” said Andrea Hendrix, TCHC Patient.

The TCHC event was successfully received by the community with more than 70 attendees. The presence of four political representatives, including Congressman Pete Stark and Senator Ellen Corbett, the heartfelt patient testimonials from the award recipients and the event festivities delivered a vibrant statement on the role of TCHC in powering healthier communities.  The National Health Center Week celebrations confirmed the critical influence of TCHC’s quality health care services on the health and lives of the underserved and uninsured families in communities of Fremont, Newark and Union City.
